Celebrating 25 Years on Lyndale

In February 1999, the Jungle Theater opened the doors of our 2951 Lyndale location, moving a few storefronts down, transforming our building into the intimate theater that has impacted the Twin Cities’ theater scene with its reputation for excellence and commitment to high artistic standards.

I wanted an intimate space to produce simple productions and lavish a lot of care on them. I think of a rose. A rose is the size it is. You don’t need a bigger rose to enjoy it. Size isn’t the issue, it’s the integrity of the artistic experience.
— Bain Boehlke, Jungle Theater Founder

Today 25 years later, we continue to welcome audiences new and old to experience the transformative power of the performing arts. "The vision of Bain for the Jungle was one of mining the sublime in every decision," elaborates Artistic Director Christina Baldwin, "Every nook and cranny of space (and storytelling) is a chance to celebrate the charm, the detail and intimacy of artmaking.”

The theater is a magical place. A place where bricks and mortar become a living, breathing thing; where playwrights, directors, and performers change words into art; with the power to open the hearts and minds of an audience; a place where empathy and art come together to remind us all what it means to be human.

Baldwin continues, “We are here because of many hands and hearts. Many people – artists, artisans and audience take turns holding the little beautiful blossom that is the Jungle. How remarkable – 25 years in this lovely building that invites us in and offers each of us a moment of magic.”

Share with us a memorable moment of theater magic you've experienced in this building. Fill out the form below and we will share these memories from our patrons, staff, and artists throughout the 25th anniversary year. We'd love to hear from you!
