Thanks to the Jungle Theater for this opportunity to be part of the Artistic Cohort at the Jungle for the next two years. I'm looking forward to delving into the complicated questions of how we support and interact with the ecosystems of our industry, especially in terms of the people. From those who have been around for years to those who are new, it's an important and pertinent matter and I'm excited to be returning to my old home at the Jungle Theater to be a part of the process. This year we're going to look closely at the data and the resources, with the goal of presenting some frameworks and prototype initiatives by season's end.

I'm excited to learn more about how to best serve the Twin Cities theatre community, audiences, artists, and the Jungle during these uncertain times. Despite all the instability the arts community faces, I firmly believe that there are opportunities for connection, innovation, and audacious art to be made. My main goal in this cohort is to seek out collaborative opportunities to resource and skill share, bring new voices to the table, and to celebrate the incredible talent that exists in the Twin Cities. As a deviser and theatre maker, I'm also thrilled to learn best practices for making new work from an institutional perspective and to develop a new material while soaking up as much wisdom from my brilliant colleagues at the Jungle as possible.

The Jungle Theater’s Artistic Cohort was started in 2021 with the hope to bridge the divide between theater authority figures and artists by fostering growth, providing mutual aid, and expanding diversity and the range of voices shaping the future of the Jungle.

“The Cohort has been necessary to the evolution of the Jungle. As the landscape of theatermaking changes throughout our nation, we invest in hyper-local support of the artists who are the changemakers in our community,” explains Artistic Director, Christina Baldwin. “Allison and Wu Chen have not only devoted time to their own craft, but also exhibited an appetite for sharing skills, experience and mentorship for all within our theater ecosystem. This is leadership.

The Jungle is poised to keep pushing the boundaries of radical support and sharing of resources — in a time where uncertainty looms, we are certain of our values, mission and work. This investment in the Cohort focuses on the growth that is possible when many hands hold our future.”
